The LV= Cup 2014

Sunday afternoon saw the Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints fight it out for the title of the 43rd season of the Anglo-Welsh Rugby Cup. With Exeter’s Sandy Park bursting with home support, the Chief’s take home the first major trophy in their 143-year history. The Thomas Lyte team were even more invested when watching the game this weekend as this marked the fourth presentation of the trophy since we were commissioned for its redesign in 2009. Thomas Lyte designs and manufactures many iconic sporting trophies for a global client base, so we were very excited to take part in this project when LV= began their sponsorship of the Anglo-Welsh rugby competition. With 24 carat gold plated core, this hand-made sterling silver trophy took over 50 hours to make in the London Workshops of Thomas Lyte Silver. Our expert team of skilled craftsman not only designed and manufactured the winner’s trophy but also the medals that were presented to both teams.

Upon the conclusion of the reward ceremony Andrew Jones, Thomas Lyte said: ‘We would like to congratulate the Exeter Chiefs on a well-deserved victory and wish both them, and the Northampton Saints, the best of luck for the rest of this season. Having worked with previous sponsors on past trophies for the Anglo-Welsh rugby cup our team was more than happy to work with LV= on the inception of this new trophy, one which we feel captures the spirit and energy of the competition.’ By Lauren Franklin
